Prickly brew
steeps beneath the
hovering press.
Stir first! I hiss—
No, you say firmly
the water teases
out the flavor, you can’t
Impose yourself on nature
You can’t interrupt
dark roast morsels embracing
water’s douse.
The Saxophone Steam Rises.
Stir! My spoon circles the air
I crave the crema swirl of
buff-colored froth,
aroma’s halo.
You stay my wieldy spoon
a firm but gentle touch,
humming, press in hand.
Crunched beans afloat
as our moment simmers.
